Close to the stunning lake of Vouliagmeni, just outside Loutraki, is located Heraion, the most important relic of the early Corinthian civilization. This archaeological site includes two destroyed sanctuaries of Hera Akrea and Hera Limania. At the Vouliagmeni lagoon there have been found remains of Neolithic and Mycenaean times. Of particular archaeological interest is the complex hydraulic irrigation system of Perachora, a work of 300 BC, which was probably devised by Demetrius the Poliorkitis (Phalireas) and it is a unique hydraulic system.
